Hume Communications Inc (HCI)

Hume Communications Inc (HCI) is a company that offers professional independent advice and assistance to municipalities, corporations and community organizations.

Founded in 1988, HCI today assists City Councils and local governments, community and health organizations, business associations, civic groups and municipalities on how to build creative, stronger, prosperous, healthier and more sustainable communities. HCI also assists municipalities with training for staff and elected officials, strategic planning, internal Council conflict situations, and issues management.

The President of HCI is Gord Hume who has been in corporate management, civic government, the public sector and executive media management. He is a successful entrepreneur and business owner. Gord was elected to London City Council four times and brings a unique perspective and insider’s knowledge to difficult municipal challenges.

Gord is the author of “Cultural Planning for Creative Communities”, published in 2009, already in 21 countries around the world. His second book, “The Local Food Revolution”, is stirring considerable interest amongst municipal leaders. His third book, “Taking Back Our Cities”, is even more provocative as it explores why local government has become the most important level of government today but why we need to change the government structures in Canada.  His fourth book, published in 2013, “10 Trends for Smarter Communities”, is a thoughtful look at the future needs of communities and local government. His 5th book, “Places and Spaces”, is a terrific read about how cities design and use the public realm and how local planning decisions strongly impact local prosperity, health and quality of life. His newest book is “”The Leadership Crisis”—a book that combines the academic, business and political lessons into a fresh look at leadership inside our city halls.

HCI (and partners) has assisted a number of municipalities with their Cultural, Economic and Strategic Plans:
